We’re back for another week of Premier League predictions, following a two-week hiatus – this time, we’ll be taking on one of the greatest legends in the history of the division.
Teddy Sheringham will be joining us this week – one of the greatest strikers in the Premier League era, he turned out for massive clubs such as Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest over the course of his glittering career.
With Teddy in tow, we’ll be doing things a bit differently this week. Four Premier League teams – West Ham United, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham – are all battling it out to avoid relegation. Wolves and Burnley look to be dead and buried, but this quartet are still fighting.
As always, it is five points for a correct result and ten points for a correct score. As we’re only predicting four games, a maximum of 40 points are up for grabs between us and Sheringham.
Teddy Sheringham: A lot of West Ham people have already claimed the three points, but it’s not as easy as that. You only have to look at Arsenal going to Wolves and not getting the result everyone expected.
Wolves will go there with intent. The manager will want to build on recent performances and prepare for next season, and the players will feel that as well. So I expect West Ham to win, but not as comfortably as people think.
Sheringham’s Prediction: West Ham 2-1 Wolves
Essential Football: This is a must win game for West Ham – as such, in true West Ham fashion, we think they’ll fail to pick up the three points. We also wouldn’t be surprised if Wolves enjoy plenty of success for prolonged periods.
With that being said, West Ham certainly have the ability to hurt their opponents in this one. It’s unlikely that they will be able to shut them out – especially so at home, which has been a consistent issue for the Irons in 2025/26.
Both sides have some excellent attacking players, but struggle manfully in the defensive third – a high-scoring draw seems like the most probable outcome to us.
EF’s Prediction: West Ham 2-2 Wolves
Teddy Sheringham: Still a tough game. I like Unai Emery as a manager – he’s done very well and he’ll get his team competing and battling for every point. I also like the Forest manager, Pereira. He’s done a great job with what he’s got, and they all understand how they need to play.
They look as good a unit as any of the bottom four – they know what they’re doing and look coherent as a team. At Forest, I think they’ll be hopeful of winning, as long as they can score goals.
They’re missing [Chris] Wood up front and [are] struggling to score. They need someone to step up. They’re solid at the back and in midfield, but they just can’t score at the moment.
Sheringham’s Prediction: Nottingham Forest 2-0 Aston Villa
Essential Football: Nottingham Forest have looked like a much improved outfit since Vitor Pereira arrived at the club. They have maintained the defensive unity instilled in them by Sean Dyche – now, they are starting to find the back of the net again.
They thumped Spurs by a score of 3-0 in their last game – Aston Villa won’t roll over quite so easily, though. Both teams have a Europa League quarter-final to contend with before this game takes place, so they’ll both be somewhat fatigued.
In cases such as this, a 1-1 draw seems to be the most sensible prediction. Forest might be strong at the back, but Villa have some dangerous attacking players who can pick out the gaps.
EF’s Prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Aston Villa
Teddy Sheringham: With Sunderland, you don’t quite know what you’re going to get. They’ve had that typical promoted-team season – very strong early on, then it tails off and they drift down the table. That probably suits Tottenham going there. I’d take a draw under the circumstances.
[Regis le Bris] needs to get back on it and get his team going. That bodes well for Tottenham going up there. I’d still be happy with a draw, under the circumstances. If they create enough chances they might win it, but a draw would be a good starting point for De Zerbi.
Sheringham’s Prediction: Sunderland 1-1 Tottenham
Essential Football: Sunderland have been a strong home team for most of this season, but have picked up a couple of defeats at the Stadium of Light in their last few games. It would seem that their aura of invincibility at home has now subsided – can Spurs take advantage?
The commitment of Tottenham’s players has been questioned relentlessly this season, but they will all be keen to impress new head coach Robert De Zerbi. Igor Tudor never had this luxury, as he only signed a short-term deal – what he thought of the individual players within the squad was largely irrelevant and they knew it.
De Zerbi, on the other hand, is at the helm for the long-term (in theory). Tyson Fury might be fighting at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night, but we aren’t expecting a knockout performance from the Lilywhites. We are, however, expecting them to grind out a much-needed win.
EF’s Prediction: Sunderland 1-2 Tottenham
Teddy Sheringham: Big game. Always a lot of friction – I played in it quite a few times. I expect Michael [Carrick] to get his team up and running after the break, and for Manchester United to get a home win.
Sheringham’s Prediction: Manchester United 3-0 Leeds United
Essential Football: Leeds United have been a teeth-grindingly dull team to watch in the Premier League over the last couple of months. In their last four league outings, the Whites have failed to score a single goal – their last goal in the Premier League came back on February 21 against Aston Villa.
Manchester United’s new-manager bounce is a thing of the past now, but Michael Carrick’s simplified approach has led the Red Devils to much better performances on average.
United should have enough solidity about them to churn out a victory – we don’t give the Whites much of a chance in this one.
EF’s Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 Leeds United
