Premier League Manager Sack Race After Major Departure

We said we were going to be harsh! Appointed just a few weeks ago, Alvaro Arbeloa may well be one of the first Premier League bosses to get the boot.

Arbeloa has experience managing Real Madrid, albeit unsuccessfully. He has some massive shoes to fill, following the departure of Marco Silva in the summer.

Having never managed a Premier League club before, Arbeloa could be set up to fail at Craven Cottage. It also doesn’t help that Fulham have been largely inactive in the summer transfer window.

Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard has done an incredible job at Coventry City. He won an astonishing 95 points in the Championship last season – but the Premier League is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Generally, the Chelsea icon has struggled as a Premier League head coach. With limited resources at his disposal, the Sky Blues could falter early on in the season.

If Coventry look like they are headed for relegation, Lampard will likely be sacked – there is no room for sentimentality in modern football.

Enzo Maresca

Another manager who has only just been appointed, Enzo Maresca has perhaps the biggest task ahead of him since David Moyes took over at Manchester United back in 2013.

Taking over from Pep Guardiola, who turned Manchester City into one of the most successful clubs in the world, is an almighty job. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the former Chelsea man stumble upon his coronation, though this isn’t a commentary on his managerial ability.

Maresca is a good manager, make no mistake. However, the City job may well be a poisoned chalice at the moment. If he does not hit the ground running (if not sprinting), the sack could be an inevitability.

Sergej Jakirovic

We hate to say it, but Hull City look like a doomed outfit ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season. With financial woes, a weak squad and underwhelming forays into the transfer market, not many audiences are giving the Tigers any sort of hope.

As such, it wouldn’t be shocking to see them propping up the rest of the table early on. If this persists, the Hull hierarchy may opt to twist and give Sergej Jakirovic his P45.

It won’t be entirely his fault, whatever happens. Hull simply are not ready for Premier League football. It was surprising to see them go up and it will not be surprising if they come straight back down.

Oliver Glasner

Yes, another Premier League coach who has just signed on the dotted line, but hear us out. Oliver Glasner is a fine manager, however, he doesn’t seem like the right fit for Nottingham Forest.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is notoriously impatient, especially so with head coaches who refuse to play expansive football. Case in point, Sean Dyche didn’t last long under his regime, despite grinding out some solid results.

Glasner is not an attacking coach. At Crystal Palace, he primarily played counter-attacking football – how long will Marinakis be willing to tolerate this? If he doesn’t produce strong results from the outset, Glasner could be in serious danger of getting the sack.
