Premier League Team of the Week XI

Another Premier League team of the week is behind us – as Manchester City begin to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal, who made it into our most recent team of the week?

We’ll be looking at players from teams such as Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Liverpool – before you begin, can you guess who they are?

GK: Jose Sa

Not many goalkeepers have been as busy as Jose Sa was when Wolves travelled to Nottingham Forest – he made a total of ten saves against the Trees.

He kept Forest at bay and maintained a clean sheet – his excellent display would be the final catalyst for Sean Dyche’s sacking at the City Ground.

RB: Lamare Bogarde

Lamare Bogarde isn’t a natural right-back, but he did an excellent job when he filled in for the injured Matty Cash against Brighton.

He had the unenviable job of keeping Kaoru Mitoma quiet – nevertheless, he made sure that the Japanese international wasn’t able to pick up a head of steam.

CB: James Hill

James Hill has quietly become one of the Premier League’s most underrated defenders this season. He couldn’t keep a clean sheet against Everton, but the goal they conceded wasn’t his fault.

Furthermore, he also picked up an assist against the Toffees in a crucial 2-1 away win. He probably won’t make it into the England team, but he would be dealt a disservice if he isn’t considered.

CB: Virgil van Dijk

The 2025/26 season has been a rotten campaign for both Virgil van Dijk and Liverpool as a whole – regardless, their away game at Sunderland provided a rare bright spot for the Reds.

Not only did the Dutch international keep a clean sheet against the Black Cats, he also scored the only goal of the game – it was the first time that Sunderland have lost at the Stadium of Light this season.

LB: Ian Maatsen

Ian Maatsen has been criticised for his defensive capabilities in the past, but there could be no compaints with his rear-guard action against Brighton.

He won plenty of aerial duels and put in a few strong tackles – could we see him permanently unseat the aging Lucas Digne?

CM: Hannibal

Hannibal and Burnley have been hugely underwhelming this season, so it was nice to see the Tunisian star finally getting something to shout about.

Burnley stunned Crystal Palace when they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 – Hannibal was on hand to score their first goal in an almighty comeback.

CM: Tomas Soucek

Towering central midfielder Tomas Soucek was a thorn in Manchester United’s side on Tuesday evening, putting a smart finish beyond Senne Lammens.

United have been in phenomenal form as of late, but West Ham United were on hand to stop their winning run in its tracks – without Soucek, they might have succumbed to a late defeat.

RW: Rayan

Rayan makes it into our team of the week once again – he showed incredibly mental fortitude against Everton, despite gving away a penalty in the first half.

The Brazilian starboy rolled up his socks and came into the second half with unshaken confidence, scoring a powerful header against the Toffees to level the game.

AM: Cole Palmer

Forget Cole Palmer’s horrendous miss at the end of Chelsea’s game against Leeds United – prior to that mishap, the former Manchester City man had been incredible on Tuesday night.

Palmer scored a goal and registered an assist against the Whites – he’s firmly back in contention for the England XI at the World Cup.

LW: Antoine Semenyo

Antoine Semenyo has been, without a shadow of a doubt, the best transfer signing during the January window. His dynamism and finishing ability have injected new life into Pep Guardiola’s men as they look to rejuvenate their title charge.

The Citizens proved to be far too much for Fulham. They won by a score of 3-0, with Semenyo scoring a goal and notching up an assist along the way.

ST: Jorgen Strand Larsen

Jorgen Strand Larsen was seen as a dud signing when he joined Crystal Palace in January – he proved his critics wrong on Wednesday evening.

Scoring a brace against Burnley, Palace would eventually fall to a 3-2 defeat at Selhurst Park – Strand Larsen can’t be blamed for their defensive fragilities, though.
