Just nine Premier League gameweeks remain. Arsenal look set to claim the title, while Tottenham Hotspur are edging closer and closer to the relegation zone – but who were this week’s best individual performers?
We’ve included players from clubs such as Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Chelsea in our team of the week – who made it into your XI?
Sunderland fans may have been worried when Robin Roefs was ruled out with an injury, but Melker Ellborg put forth an excellent shift between the sticks in his stead.
He made four saves to maintain Sunderland’s clean sheet away at Leeds United, as the Black Cats picked up a 1-0 win on the road.
Kieran Trippier isn’t the player he used to be, but he rolled back the years when Newcastle took on Manchester United in midweek.
Despite spending most of the game with ten men, Trippier put forth some diligent defensive work and found the assist for the Toon’s winning goal.
James Tarkowski has quietly been one of the best defenders in the Premier League this season – he’s limited, but very effective.
He tormented his former club on Tuesday night, scoring a powerful header and making a number of clearances to prevent Burnley from finding the back of the net.
Once again, Bournemouth’s James Hill makes his way into our team of the week. At the beginning of the season, the Cherries’ defence looked particularly leaky, but they have now conceded just three goals in their last five games.
Their game against Brentford was ditchwater-dull, but Hill had plenty of work to do to ensure that Bournemouth didn’t concede.
Leeds United have been an excellent attacking team this season – however, Sunderland rendered them impotent at Elland Road.
A natural right-back, Trai Hume put in an excellent shift at left-back, making a number of tackles against the Whites to keep them at bay.
What a performance from Wolves. They might be destined for relegation, but they at least gave their fans to cheer about when they stunned Liverpool on Tuesday evening.
Andre made some crunching tackles against the Reds, guarding the backline ferociously – he capped off his excellent number six display with a goal late on to seal all three points.
Elliot Anderson will be right back in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup plans after this performance against Manchester City. The Citizens took an early lead, but Anderson took the game by the scruff of the neck to drag Nottingham Forest back into it.
Anderson controlled the midfield after City went 2-0 up – he also scored the equalising goal to cap off his efforts.
Anderson might be back in England squad contention, but Adam Wharton also will be after his fantastic performance against a wounded Tottenham.
Wharton marshalled the midfield like an experienced veteran, making Spurs chase shadows throughout. The former Blackburn Rovers star notched up two assists at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – could this be the result that condemns Spurs to the Championship?
Ismaila Sarr had been quiet over the past couple of weeks, but the Palace star burst into life when the Eagles took on Tottenham.
He scored a brace to sink the Lilywhites – he might have had a hattrick, were it not for a marginal offside call in the first half.
Morgan Gibbs-White’s true quality doesn’t always shine through, but he looked like a superstar against Manchester City.
As Forest were 2-0 down, Gibbs-White netted a deft backheel finish to drag the Trees back into the game. Does he deserve a spot in the England squad?
Joao Pedro was, without a shadow of a doubt, this week’s star player. With three goals and an assist, the Brazilian international ran rampant over Aston Villa.
The Villans could not contain him – Joao Pedro has now scored 14 goals in the Premier League this season, putting him ahead of players like Viktor Gyokeres, Hugo Ekitike and Bryan Mbeumo.
