After a two-week hiatus, the Premier League got back underway this weekend. Arsenal suffered a surprising defeat against Bournemouth, while Manchester City added fuel to the fire by beating Chelsea – but who were this gameweek’s top individual performers?
Spurs fell further into the abyss with a defeat at Sunderland, while Leeds United stunned bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford – here’s who made it into our team of the week.
Is Robin Roefs one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League? He proved his worth once again with a fantastic display against Tottenham at the Stadium of Light.
Spurs had plenty of efforts on goal, forcing Roefs into no less than seven saves, but none of their attempts could beat the Dutchman.
Mats Wieffer showed his quality against Burnley. He and Jaidon Anthony engaged in a match-long battle down the Seagulls’ right flank, but Wieffer came out on top.
Not only this, he also scored two goals to give Brighton a 2-0 win on the road – in doing so, their chances of finishing in the top seven were given a significant boost.
Marc Guehi continued to prove his status as the best signing of the January transfer window with another faultless display. Chelsea put forth some dangerous attacks in the first half, but Guehi was equal to everything.
He also scored just before the hour mark – picking up the ball in Chelsea’s area, he showed showed great composure to swivel and find the back of the net.
Konstantinos Mavropanos has been accused of inconsistency – whatever the truth might be, he was certainly on good form when West Ham United obliterated Wolves.
Scored two of their four goals, Mavropanos also made sure to do his defensive work and maintain the Hammers’ clean sheet in a vital win.
Nico O’Reilly looks like a shoe in for England at the 2026 World Cup. For such a young player, he can do everything – he found himself on the scoresheet once again against Chelsea.
He met a fantastic cross by Rayan Cherki to deftly head the ball into the back of the net, then went on to keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win.
Alex Scott put forth a wonderful display from the heart of Bournemouth’s midfield against Arsenal. He was up against it, competing against Martin Zubimendi and Declan Rice, but he managed to get the better of both of them.
His first touch and passing were exquisite – he also scored the winning goal to give the Cherries a famous win at the Emirates Stadium.
Everton may not have won in their away game against Brentford, but they might have suffered defeat if not for Kieran Dewsbury-Hall.
The former Chelsea man found himself on the scoresheet once again, latching onto a rebound to slam the ball home – in doing so, he kept the Toffees’ European dreams alive.
Wolves were desperately below par against West Ham, but that doesn’t mean we can’t lend praise to the Hammers – in particular, Jarrod Bowen was back to his phenomenal best.
His spot in England’s 2026 World Cup squad looks fairly secure at this juncture – a pair of assists against Wolves can only solidify his position.
If Marc Guehi was Manchester City’s best signing in January, Cherki was the Sky Blues’ best summer addition. His range of passing and control over the ball are simply peerless in the Premier League.
Chelsea couldn’t get near the French international – in the second half, he was cutting them open at will with his clever cutbacks and wonderful crossing from deep.
Rio Ngumoha is amongst the best young players in the Premier League right now. For all of Liverpool’s existing issues, Ngumoha is a light shining amidst the darkness in Merseyside.
He scored a fantastic goal against Fulham, giving their backline the slip to curl a brilliant effort beyond Bernd Leno into the back of the net.
Very, very few people backed Leeds United to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford – Noah Okafor proved plenty of audiences wrong on Monday night.
He scored a couple of instinctive efforts to give the Whites a much-needed win on their quest to Premier League survival.
