Premier League Team of the Week XI

The 2026/27 Premier League season has seen its second gameweek come and go. Who were the best performers from this weekend?

Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and (excuse me?) Hull City recorded their second victories of the campaign, while seven teams still remain winless.

Notably, Coventry City, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have all failed to score a goal as of yet. We’re not looking at team performances today, though – this is our team of the week, where individual displays are the name of the game.

GK: Lukas Hornicek

Lukas Hornicek has enjoyed a great start to life at Newcastle United. He was crucial in their away win at Spurs, making six saves to maintain the Mags’ clean sheet.

RB: Amar Dedic

The second Newcastle United player on our list – they were brilliant against Tottenham, even if the Lilywhites made it a little too easy for them. Amar Dedic made some vital defensive contributions and also notched up an assist to make his spot in this XI a bit of a no-brainer.

CB: John Egan

Hull City were at it again on Saturday afternoon. After a famous win over Manchester United in gameweek one, they followed it up by beating fellow promoted side Coventry City in their second outing. John Egan was utterly formidable, making ten clearances amid a 1-0 win on the road.

CB: Nordi Mukiele

If you thought Egan’s clearances tally was impressive, wait until you see Nordi Mukiele’s. Sunderland notched up a 1-0 win over Fulham, with Mukiele clearing the ball from dangerous areas a whopping 14 times.

LB: Riccardo Calafiori

Riccardo Calafiori has been sensational in Arsenal’s opening two games of the Premier League season. Known for his defensive abilities primarily, he showed his attacking acumen to make a smart run down the left, finding Bukayo Saka to score the only goal of the game against Aston Villa.

CM: Alex Scott

We’re as surprised as anyone that Bournemouth have managed to hold onto Alex Scott this summer – at least, for now. It is deadline day, after all. Following a performance like his against Everton, he will surely be on the radar of some massive clubs.

CM: Youri Tielemans

We saw an understated, but nonetheless excellent performance from Youri Tielemans for Manchester United. He did what he does best – the Belgian international kept their midfield ticking, whilst playing some excellent balls into dangerous areas. Ipswich couldn’t get near him.

RW: Rayan Cherki

Rayan Cherki must now be one of the first names on Enzo Maresca’s team sheet every week for Manchester City. His creative prowess is incredible – this week, he also showed his goalscoring knack, netting a brace against an all-at-sea Crystal Palace.

AM: Bruno Fernandes

The best player from gameweek two by a country mile. Anyone who doubted Bruno Fernandes ahead of this season need worry no longer – after he scored a hattrick against Ipswich, all fears have been put safely to bed.

LW: Anthony Elanga

Anthony Elanga looks like a player reborn under Matthias Jaissle. His second goal in as many Premier League games, the new Newcastle United boss seems to have found a way to utilise his electric pace.

ST: Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland is after yet another golden boot – with two goals against Crystal Palace on Friday evening, he is well on his way. He might’ve endured a disappointing opening game, but made up for it this weekend.
