There has been a lot of talk about silverware around Tottenham Hotspur from the rival fans, but the North Londoners find themselves just 90 minutes away from adding another piece of European silverware to the growing collection at Hotspur Way, and standing in the Lilywhites’ way for this one would be Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain.
The Premier League heavyweights come into this game on top of that confidence from that Europa League win over Manchester United, and now Thomas Frank’s side heads to Udine to play a one-off game against the French giants in what will be Thomas Frank’s first competitive match in charge donning that Spurs badge.
We saw how the Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou bowed away from his reins at Hotspur Way with glory, and now taking charge is Thomas Frank, who has a chance to lift a trophy in his very first competitive match on the sidelines for his new employers.
Date & Time: PSG vs Tottenham are set to play at the Stadio Friuli this Wednesday (i.e., 13 August 2025) as the game kicks off at 20:00 BST (21:00 CET).
The supporters wanting to watch Tottenham play PSG in the Super Cup 2025 can watch the game on TNT Sports. There is Discovery+, who is going to stream this game.
We saw how Thomas Frank suffered a huge injury blow going into the season with creative outlet James Maddison ruled out for the majority of the season owing to an ACL injury in that pre-season game against Newcastle United. Then, Dominic Solanke would be a huge doubt for the game as well, given that he limped out of that friendly against Reading in July and has never featured in the pre-season since.
But then the Dane head coach receives a boost as new signing Joao Palhinha is ready to make his competitive debut for the North Londoner after he got a run in for a half against Bayern last week.
PSG is still looking a bit rusty in the pre-season, and that is understandable given how long of a last season they had. Luis Enrique’s side ended the season with that Champions League win, but then they went very deep in the Club World Cup final, where they were defeated by Chelsea. And after that long season, their squad came back only on 6 August, which was not too long ago.
And given the transfer rumours, Gianluigi Donnarumma has rejected a new contract at PSG, and there is a chance that he could be benched, with incoming keeper from Lille Lucas Chevalier taking charge of proceedings between the sticks.
The North Londoners have been looking quite differentunder Thomas Frank, given how the current roster have adapted quite well in that structured mid-block setup, and we saw how it could be quite frustrating for the opponents to open it up. And while there is a lot to work on from that last game against Bayern Munich, it is quite understandable that the Dane head coach would be looking to block those spaces and half spaces for Luis Enrique’s side.
This one could be more of a transitional game for the Lilywhites, especially given how PSG operate, complemented by how we saw the likes of Odobert and Kudus excel in those situations in the pre-season games.
Tottenham have had a strong pre-season and will definitely be sharper going into the game than PSG, who will still be looking to get some air in the lungs after that long last season. Thomas Frank has a big chance to start his career at Hotspur Way with a headline win.
PSG 1 – 2 Tottenham
