Racing Club set clear Jorge Salinas transfer stance

Jorge Salinas has been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer as the club’s search for new players continues.

The 19-year-old, of Spanish outfit Racing Santander, made 33 appearances for Racing in LaLiga 2 last season, providing seven assists as the club won promotion to LaLiga as champions.

Salinas, who has also made appearances for Spain at youth level, has previously been with Deportivo Rayo Cantabria.

Manchester United are not the only club interested in the full-back, however, with reports suggesting that Spanish champions Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are both interested too.

Newcastle United, on the other hand, have also focused their attention on the 19-year-old as Manchester United continue to look at a move for Lewis Hall.

Amid growing speculation about his future, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have now revealed Racing Santander’s stance on a prospective deal.

Reporting on the links, the outlet have asked Chema Aragon, the sporting director, at Racing directly.

Responding to the question and the need to protect sporting assets, Aragon said: “Hopefully they’ll stay.”

He also admitted: “There’s little you can do if a superstar comes along,” speaking in reference to a possible situation where a club comes in with a bid that matches the full-back’s release clause.

Aragon also sent a message to Jorge Salinas in the interview, saying: “If he stays, his growth will have to be reflected in his contract.”

The sporting director insisted, too, that Racing Santander will “strengthen itself” and “not weaken itself with the stars.”

With a clear stance outlined alongside a desire to strengthen, it appears unlikely that Racing Santander will let Salinas leave easily.

If Manchester United come in with a high enough bid, however, the possibility of a deal could improve. Only time will tell in deciding what the Red Devils decide to do next.
