Rayo Vallecano manager Inigo Perez will remain at the club next season, after securing the club’s safety from the drop with a game to spare.

Perez was parachuted in to replace Francisco, as Rayo skidded down the table. Arriving in mid-February, Andoni Iraola’s former assistant has not set the world alight, winning just three of his 14 games in charge at Vallecas, drawing and losing five. The 36-year-old has improved Rayo’s defence, but their woes in front of goal have shown little sign of easing, with just 11 goals coming in those games.

President Raul Martin Presa confirmed Perez’s continuity to Diario AS, as carried by Union Rayo. He also confirmed that the majority of the squad would continue and rated Perez’s work as 10 out of 10, signalling that survival was the main goal for Rayo. Perez is in his first job at Rayo, and will have a preseason to put his stamp on the side in the summer.
