Reports from multiple sources on Thursday confirm that Real Madrid have activated the release clause in the contract of former Juventus defender Dean Huijsen, which means that the Bianconeri will receive a percentage of his fee once his transfer away from AFC Bournemouth is finalised.

Real Madrid activate Huijsen release clause

According to various outlets on Thursday morning, Real Madrid have now activated the release clause in Huijsen’s contract with Bournemouth.

Real Madrid have an agreement in place with Bournemouth to pay the €59m (£50m) release clause fee over three instalments according to reports from David Ornstein of The Athletic. The final details of the transfer are now being finalised.

Juventus will also receive around €5.9m from the sale of the Spain international, as they are entitled to a 10% cut of his sell-on fee after a clause that the Bianconeri negotiated at the time of his move away from Turin last summer.

However, Juventus’s decision to greenlight Huijsen’s sale to Bournemouth for a fee of €15.2m plus €3m in bonuses less than a year ago has drawn widespread criticism, particularly given that they have already committed to spending up to €24m on Lloyd Kelly as a replacement.
