Reports surfaced Thursday that Real Madrid offered €180 million ($211 million) to Paris Saint-Germain for star forward Kylian Mbappe after PSG allegedly rejected a bid of €160 million ($188 million) from the Spanish giants for the 22-year-old earlier in the week.
Talks between the parties may be on hold through the end of the festive holidays.
Sky Sports reports that Real Madrid may now wait until January to submit another bid for Mbappe. The story claims Real feel PSG "are not being practical" in negotiations, but the situation could change in the first month of 2022 when Mbappe is eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with any team and then leave the Parisians as a free agent next summer.
Mbappe's contract expires after this season, and he has reportedly rejected all offers of an extension from PSG because his dream is to relocate to Madrid and play home matches at the Bernabeu. By waiting until the new year, both he and Real could force PSG to sell him by the night of Jan. 31 or risk losing him for nothing the subsequent summer.
The current transfer window closes Tuesday evening.
Meanwhile, PSG have been linked with signing Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland as a replacement for Mbappe.
