Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea have made the best value for money signing this summer in Joao Pedro.

Pedro was one of five attacking signings the Blues made this summer, as their attack underwent a major revamp from last season.

Chelsea beat off interest from a number of clubs for the Brazil international, and agreed a deal worth up to £60m with Brighton for Pedro.

Pedro was on holiday when Chelsea called, but he’s made an instant impact after linking up with the Blues for the latter stages of the Club World cUP.

The 23-year-old scored two brilliant goals in the semi final against Fluminense, before getting on the scoresheet again in the final against PSG.

Pedro has continued his form into the Premier League season with two goals in the first three games, including the opener against Fulham last weekend.

Daniel Sturridge believes Pedro is the most underrated signing this summer, and Ferdinand has now shared his thoughts.

“I think Pedro is going to be the best value, Joao Pedro at Chelsea, out of all the [summer] transfers,” he told his YouTube channel.

“I think he’s a great mix and a great addition to the Chelsea squad.

“He can play centre-forward. He can play as a ten, I see him as a little bit of an 8/10 in the team.

“I think he’s a really, really, really good addition.”

Liam Delap injury a blow for Chelsea

Whilst Pedro has made a great start to life at Chelsea, the club’s other striker signing Liam Delap is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Delap started two of Chelsea’s first three Premier League games, but was forced off after 15 minutes against Fulham with a hamstring injury.

It’s thought Delap could be out for up to eight weeks, but some reports have suggested he could be on the sidelines for longer.

The injury increases Chelsea’s reliance on Pedro, but they have recalled Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland to provide cover.
