The guaranteed part of the fee Manchester City will give to Milan for Tijjani Reijnders could be as little as €55m, with the rest made up of bonuses.
We had already seen that the deal was practically done between the two clubs for circa €75m in total including the add-ons.
However, eyebrows are being raised with suggestions that the ‘fixed’ part of the fee might only be circa €55m.
This means that the ultimate figure will be decided only at the end of the time Reijnders spends at Manchester City, as the bonuses would be based on both his own personal achievements and the results of the club during his time there.
Some of these add-ons are considered easy to activate and therefore almost guaranteed, but others will be tougher, for instance linked to Champions League victory.
There is another situation to take into consideration too, because as part of the original deal where Milan purchased Reijnders from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 for €20.5m plus bonuses, there was a 10 per cent cut of the future sale fee.
That is likely to only be part of the guaranteed fee and not the add-ons, so having a lower figure might even benefit the Rossoneri.
