Matt Law downplays Tottenham return for Fabio Paratici

Tottenham’s season has been far from ideal, plagued by injuries and poor management. With the Europa League as their only remaining shot at silverware, the club must prioritise a summer rebuild to compete for a top-six finish next season. Several players are expected to depart during the upcoming transfer window.

Despite recent reports from Italy , Tottenham Hotspur have not engaged in discussions to reappoint Fabio Paratici in a full-time role. According to trusted Telegraph journalist Matt Law , no talks have taken place between Daniel Levy and the former Spurs chief, who is currently serving a worldwide football ban.

Fabio Paratici could be a tempting prospect for Levy, having spent two years at the club and developed close bonds in North London. He was the managing director of football last April but quit after being handed a football-related ban that will lift in June.

There were reports in the last month or so that Levy was prepared to pay Paratici a big La Liga/Serie A contract to return to the club, but those claims have been dismissed by Telegraph journalist Matt Law. He has stated that his sources, described as being ‘well-placed’, have assured him that no discussions have taken place yet. Both Tottenham and Paratici have not addressed the speculation publicly.

Paratici’s influence at the club has dumbed down

Despite serving his ban, Fabio Paratici has remained in contact with chairman Daniel Levy, who has continued to seek his input behind the scenes. The 52-year-old has even been spotted attending a few Spurs matches during this period, maintaining a quiet but noticeable presence. With his suspension set to expire in the coming months, Paratici is reportedly eager to return to football in a full-time capacity, reigniting speculation about what role, if any, he might play in Tottenham’s evolving structure.

Paratici’s influence at Tottenham has noticeably diminished following the arrival of technical director Johan Lange, who joined the club in October 2023, shortly after Scott Munn took on his executive role. The shift in hierarchy has been further reinforced by the return of Rob Mackenzie as chief scout, replacing Leonardo Gabbanini — a key appointment made during Paratici’s tenure. These changes signal a significant structural overhaul behind the scenes, as the club reshapes its football operations under a new leadership framework.

As the season approaches its final stretch, Johan Lange is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping Tottenham’s future. With growing speculation around Ange Postecoglou’s position, reports suggest the Australian could be at risk if results don’t improve. According to Matt Law, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva have emerged as leading candidates to take the reins should the club opt for a managerial change in the coming months. Lange’s decisions in this period could define the next chapter of Tottenham’s project, both on and off the pitch.
