Tottenham still have hope of beating Manchester United to the signing of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo

A massive revamp is needed at Tottenham Hotspur in the summer to kickstart a new era under new boss Thomas Frank.

Since rumours of Thomas Frank replacing Ange Postecoglou at Spurs started floating, several players from Brentford unsurprisingly, have been linked. One of those is Bryan Mbeumo.

Bryan Mbeumo enjoyed a career-best Premier League campaign under Thomas Frank last season, scoring 20 goals and providing eight assists in 38 appearances for Brentford. The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the exciting forwards in the Premier League, thanks to his goalscoring ability, creativity, pace, dynamism and flair, as well as his partnership with Yoane Wissa up top for the Bees.

The Cameroonian international is expected to leave the Gtech Community Stadium this summer with a year left on his contract, although Brentford hold an option to extend it by another 12 months. Tottenham have been interested in Bryan Mbeumo, and the appointment of Frank at the helm has boosted their chances of landing him. However, Manchester United are believed to be leading the race for the versatile forward’s signature , as Ruben Amorim eyes upgrades on his attacking options.

Despite suggestions that the Brentford star’s preference is to join Manchester United, reliable journalist Duncan Castles believes Spurs still have a chance of landing Mbeumo. The African attacker has not yet closed the door entirely on a possible reunion with Frank at White Hart Lane.

“The indication from Manchester United was that Mbeumo had chosen to move there, that he verbally told them that his preference was to move there,” Duncan Castles told on the Transfers Podcast.

“I’m not hearing exactly the same on that there. I think there is a good chance that Mbeumo, should Tottenham, in particular, get to the price that Brentford are asking, that he might choose Tottenham ahead of Manchester United.

“And there are a couple of obvious reasons for that. One is, it allows him to stay in London, and, secondly, allows them to carry on playing for Thomas Frank, who has joined Tottenham as the replacement for Ange Postecoglou.”

The latest update from Castles on this Mbeumo situation suggests the player has not yet made his mind up over his next summer move, giving Tottenham hope of landing him. Spurs have reportedly made a £70million bid for the Cameroonian attacker—the price which is more than what Brentford are asking.

So, there is a good chance it gets accepted. However, it will all come down to what Mbeumo wants to do with his career. Whether he wants to move into a chaotic environment at Old Trafford or team up with Frank, play in the Champions League and become a part of his revolution at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The choice remains his.
