Tottenham are still hoping to land Man United star Marcus Rashford in the summer

A massive squad overhaul is needed at Tottenham if the club wants to close the gap on their rivals next season. Many fans believed that winning the Europa League last month would mark a change at N17 and the club would operate differently following the historic achievement. However, the Lilywhites have not learnt from their past mistakes and are already playing catch-up in the transfer market.

The disastrous Premier League campaign has also put the club on the backfoot as financial constraints have come into the picture. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is now forced to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy in the summer. This means that the club must sell its underperforming players to generate funds for new arrivals.

Now, there are many players that have not been at their best for the Lilywhites this season. The attacking line has not got going, with many stars failing to step up consistently for the North London club. So, Levy must do everything he can to revamp the squad in the summer as Spurs look to kickstart a new era at N17 next season.

Tottenham might regret not signing Man United star Marcus Rashford

Tottenham need to act quick in the transfer market if they want to land their intended targets for next season. It has been three weeks since the transfer market opened, and the Lilywhites have only managed to sign Mathys Tel on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich. With time running out, Daniel Levy must do everything he can to get business done in time before pre-season starts.

It was reported earlier that Spurs are interested in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United in the summer. The prolific winger is set to leave Old Trafford in the summer after falling out with Ruben Amorim. However, the Lilywhites might not win the race to land the England international, as his heart is set on a move to Barcelona instead. Now, Henry Winter believes Tottenham missed a trick by not signing the 27-year-old. Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk (via TBR Football), Winter said,

“I always thought that if he was going to stay in England, that he would go to a club like Tottenham Hotspur, but they’ve got Mathys Tel who’s playing out there because Heung-Min Son’s sort of powers are fading and Rashford would have been very good on the left.”

The reliable journalist added,

“But look, as ever with modern football, as it comes down to money and I just think that Marcus Rashford is going to have to take a substantial cut if he wants to be playing and if he wants to seize this opportunity to go to the World Cup.”

Henry Winter suggested that Tottenham would have been a perfect club for Marcus Rashford if he preferred to stay in England. The journalist added that the Lilywhites have now signed Mathys Tel instead as Heung-Min Son’s replacement, but the Man United star would have been an ideal signing for the club. Winter also insisted that the Englishman might have to take a pay-cut if he wants to play elsewhere and revive his hopes of getting selected for the World Cup squad.

Available for £40 million, Rashford is a full international with plenty of experience, The talent is there and a dfresh start could see them return to his best.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 27-year-old. The door to join Tottenham is not shut yet, and there is a chance that Rashford dons the Lilywhite jersey next season. However, Manchester United will add a few more millions to the asking price if they even consider selling the England international to a Premier League rival.
