Celtic are reportedly considering a sensational move for Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa. The Italian joined Anfield last summer for a bargain £10m fee but struggled for game time under Arne Slot as the Reds cantered to the title.
According to an exclusive report from Sports Boom, Celtic have scouted the Euro 2020 winner with a view to enticing him to Glasgow’s East End. However, they face competition from teams in Italy as well as other Premier League outfits.
The report states that Chiesa is part of Liverpool’s longterm plans but they appreciate that he may want more games. This situation could be to Celtic’s benefit as they could offer the player a loan with a view to playing regularly, including European football with a playoff to get into the UEFA Champions League.
Chiesa came through at Fiorentina, where he made 153 appearances, scoring 34 times and assisting on 26 occasions. A loan and permanent move then transpired to Italian giants Juventus, while in Turin the winger made 131 appearances and found the net 32 times while laying on 23 assists.
Life at Liverpool hasn’t been smooth sailing for the powerful winger, who has made just 14 appearances, scoring and assisting on two occasions. It may be an unlikely and fanciful signing by Celtic but it would fit the definition of a marquee signing. Chiesa may prefer a return to Italy over a switch to Scotland but he will have his own ambitions and competing for trophies, playing and scoring regularly will be high on his list of priorities- especially with the World Cup next year.
Celtic are in need for wide reinforcements after Nicolas Kühn was sold to Como. The German was joined by Luis Palma, who left for Poland and is expected to be joined by Marco Tilio, who is bound for Rapid Vienna. Celtic needed another winger this summer before Kühn departed owing to Jota’s knee injury, which will keep him out until January.
