Are you willing to trust a source who has over 75,000 followers on Facebook if he lets it be known Celtic may be about to sign a winger? Yup, me too. Come on, it’s deadline day!
So with that in mind, according to Tunisian journalist Mahdi Abid, وأخيرا .. هاماربي السويدي يرضخ… –
Mahdi Abid مهدي عبيد | Facebook – a modern-day Celtic hero as of today – Celtic look set to sign
Hammarby winger Sebastian Tounekti, and it looks likely he’ll head to Glasgow this afternoon to complete a medical.
Here’s what Mahdi had to say, via a ropey translation of course – ‘Swedish Hamarby takes matters to reality and agrees to Celtic offer. Tonkte will fly from Sweden to London this afternoon to undergo a medical with his new team. May God make it easy.
Yes please. Recently addressing Celtic’s transfer interest, the winger had more faith in Celtic than many of us when he said – as reported via Fotbollskanalen
“I think the interest is still there, and I know they probably won’t give up yet. That’s what I’ve heard.
They’re going to go all in. So we’ll see what happens. I’m very happy here, but it’s great to see such interest.
It’s difficult to answer that right now. Things can happen quickly in football. The window closes tomorrow.
I understand Hammarby. They want to win matches in the autumn and I’ve been given a good role in the team.
So, I understand Hammarby’s side. But there’s a lot of money involved and it will be exciting to see what happens.”
If this Tunisian Facebook account is genuine, and with only hours left of a transfer window in which Celtic still need at least one winger – ideally two – I’m more than willing to go all in on this one being true, then Celtic may be about to sign a winger who already seems to have divided the support as to how good he may or may not be.
However, The Cynic had a Celtic-supporting scout on one of their podcasts recently who has been covering Scandinavian football as his patch for – if I remember correctly – seven years, and he seemed very positive indeed that if Celtic got this deal done, they’d be signing a right good prospect and one who could also hit the ground running. I’ll take that kind of professional insight over my own trek through FBRef any day of the week.
It’s a rumour of a done deal, it’s a player a Scandinavian scout has indicated is a good prospect, and he seems to be keen on Celtic, whilst at the same time having more faith in Celtic completing transfers than many of us do.
What’s not to like? This one just has to be a goer, does it not?
