Inter Milan are targeting Genoa defender Koni De Winter as a replacement for Francesco Acerbi this summer.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908.

Inter Milan are set to make a major defensive signing this summer.

The Nerazzurri’s priority is to add a young defender who can become the bedrock of their back three for both the short and long-term future.

For the past few seasons, Inter have relied on Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi at the centre of their back three.

However, those two stalwarts will turn 34 and 38 next season respectively.

Therefore, Inter clearly need to find a younger player who can replace the two ex-Lazio veterans in the long term.

Inter Targeting Koni De Winter As A Francesco Acerbi Replacement

Acerbi in particular can hardly play at the top level for much longer.

Therefore, Inter’s plan will be to replace the Italian international.

And in that respect, Inter need to bring in a player with a similar profile to Acerbi. That means a defender with the physical strength and marking ability to keep strikers quiet and clear danger from the penalty area.

According to Sky Sport Italia, there is one player in particular who Inter have lined up in this regard.

The broadcaster report that Genoa defender Koni De Winter has convinced the Nerazzurri. They see him as having exactly the right style of play to inherit Acerbi’s place going forward.
