Inter Milan reportedly lined up Fiorentina wingback Dodo as a replacement in case Denzel Dumfries left the club.
This according to Italian outlet FCInter1908. They report that the Nerazzurri didn’t want to be unprepared in case Dumfries had his release clause triggered.
This summer, Inter were aware of the possibility of an exit for Denzel Dumfries.
The Dutchman reportedly had a release clause in his contract worth €25 million.
Meanwhile, Dumfries also changed his agent to Jorge Mendes. Reportedly, Mendes even offered him to Barcelona.
Then, Manchester City also reportedly saw Dumfries as a potential target at right-back.
In the end, Dumfries stayed at Inter this summer.
No clubs triggered the 29-year-old’s release clause before it expired at the end of July.
However, that does not mean that Inter were not preparing for the contingency of having to sell Dumfries if a club were to make an offer that his Dumfries stipulated was sufficient.
Therefore, behind the scenes Inter were reportedly drawing up a shortlist of potential replacements for Dumfries.
And according to FCInter1908, Fiorentina’s Dodo was high on that list.
