Mike Maignan has informed Milan he will either join Chelsea this summer or in 2026 as a free agent, according to L’Equipe.
The goalkeeper had been all set to sign a new contract back in March, but when it was postponed over uncertainty surrounding the new coach and director of sport, this left the window open for him to have doubts.
The fact they also failed to qualify for Europe created further concerns, which even new boss Max Allegri was unable to assuage.
After an opening €15m offer from Chelsea was turned down, French newspaper L’Equipe claim that Maignan has set an ultimatum to Milan.
He will join the Blues, either this summer for a paid fee, or next year as a free agent, meaning he has no intention of negotiating a new contract.
According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the asking price is €23.7m, but Chelsea remain confident that with this latest stance from the goalkeeper, they can get a deal done for €18m.
The Rossoneri are already looking to his replacement, in talks with Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
