Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has become the latest name to be linked with a move to Milan, with reports from Italy claiming that the Rossoneri have identified the Englishman as a potential alternative if they cannot complete a deal for Manchester City outcast Manuel Akanji.

According to what has been reported by IlMilanista , Milan still wish to present new head coach Massimiliano Allegri with additional defensive reinforcements, as the club look to reinvest funds received from the €40m sale of Malick Thiaw to Premier League side Newcastle.

The Rossoneri signed former Juventus defender Koni De Winter already but wish to present Allegri with another option.

Akanji-Gomez saga up in the air for Milan

The reports from Italy claim that City defender Akanji is still Allegri’s number one choice for a defensive signing. The Swiss defender can play a number of roles across the back four and has experience at the very top level.

However, IlMilanista’s reports indicate that Gomez is viewed as a very similar profile to Akanji, with the English defender able to play at both right-back and centre-back, and also has a wealth of experience under his belt.
