Lorenzo Pellegrini was told he will not have his Roma contract renewed, but he reportedly rejected a move to Turkish team Trabzonspor.
The midfielder already saw himself stripped of the captaincy at the Stadio Olimpico, and pushed down the pecking order to the bench by new coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
In an unusual move, Roma announced that his contract would not be extended, so his experience with the Giallorossi will end on June 30, 2026.
It could’ve been over before that, because transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano and Retesport claim that a proposal was made by Trabzonspor over the last few days.
It would be a loan with obligation to buy and give the player an impressive salary.
However, Pellegrini was not interested in a move to the Turkish Super Lig at this stage of his career, preferring to hold out for the Premier League or LaLiga instead.
That will have to wait until January 2026, when those transfer windows open up again.
The 29-year-old is a product of the Roma youth academy and the only other club he ever played for was Sassuolo from 2015 to 2017.
He has 36 senior caps for Italy, where he scored six goals.
