Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Borussia Mönchengladbach left-back Lukas Ullrich this summer.

According to TBR football, they will face competition from Leeds United, Crystal Palace, Everton, Brighton, and Nottingham Forest as well.

The German defender is highly rated across Europe, and he could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for Tottenham. He was an important player for Gladbach last season, and his performances attracted the attention of the North London club.

Lukas Ullrich would be a long-term addition

The 21-year-old can operate as a left-back as well as a wing-back. He could prove to be a solid long-term acquisition for Tottenham. Destiny Udogie was quite underwhelming last season, and he can be quite inconsistent as well. More competition for places would be ideal, and the German defender could compete with the Italian for the starting spot next season.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs can get the deal across the line. The talented young German will want to play often at this stage of his career, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can provide him with assurances. Sitting on the bench at the Premier League club is unlikely to benefit his development.

Ullrich needs game time

He has just had an excellent breakthrough campaign in the Bundesliga, and he will look to build on it. Spurs will have to provide him with a clear pathway to the first team if they want to convince him to join the club.

The likes of Leeds and Crystal Palace might be better placed to offer him regular game time. It remains to be seen how the situation develops. Leeds will need to replace Junior Firpo, and Crystal Palace could lose Tyrick Mitchell.

It will be interesting to see where the 21-year-old ends up eventually.
