Report: Tottenham target from London club could be available for £40m in January

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs interested in the Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The 28-year-old has been linked with the move away from Selhurst Park, and a report from CaughtOffside claims that Tottenham could look to provide him with an exit route. It will be interesting to see if they can get the deal done.

The French attacker has shown his quality in the Premier League consistently, and there is no doubt that he would be an excellent addition for Tottenham. They need more quality and depth in the attacking unit. Dominic Solanke has not been able to find the back of the net consistently. Signing another striker would be a step in the right direction.

The Crystal Palace stars scored 14 goals in the Premier League last season, and he has already found the back of the net five times in eight matches this season. He could prove to be an upgrade on Solanke. Apart from his goal-scoring ability, his hold-up play, aerial prowess, and chance creation could prove to be valuable for Tottenham if they manage to get the deal done.

Mateta asking price revealed

The report claims that he could be made available for £40 million in January. Spurs certainly have the finances to pay that kind of money for the striker, and it remains to be seen whether they follow up on their interest with an official proposal.

Other Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Newcastle United are interested in the Crystal Palace striker as well. Tottenham should look to move quickly in order to get the deal done. They need to improve their squad, and signing the 28-year-old in January could prove to be a game-changer for them.
