Galatasaray reportedly genuinely tried to sign Inter Milan talisman Hakan Calhanoglu during the summer transfer window.
According to Turkish outlet Sabah via FCInterNews, Inter’s excessive asking price blew the Rams Park club out of the water.
In addition to Fenerbahce, Galatasaray were hot on the 31-year-old’s trail, but neither club came close to meeting Inter’s valuation.
Furthermore, the reigning Super Lig holders even contacted the player’s agent to discuss a move.
Aware of the foreign interest, Inter slapped a €30 million price tag on Hakan Calhanoglu.
However, Galatasaray were unwilling to offer more than €10 million.
Therefore, negotiations quickly collapsed, leaving Calhanoglu firmly in Inter’s plans for the new season.
On the other hand, Galatasaray have swooped in for Manchester City veteran Ilkay Gundogan.
After signing the German midfielder, their interest in the former AC Milan playmaker has waned.
However, there’s still speculation that they could make a late attempt to land Calhanoglu in September.
Yet, Cristian Chivu will unlikely sanction the deal, considering Inter cannot sign a replacement.
