Benjamin Pavard swapped Inter Milan for Olympique Marseille on a season-long loan in the final hours of the transfer window.

According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInter1908, Inter ‘wanted’ to sell the Frenchman after he failed to meet expectations.

Despite moving to San Siro as an elite defender in the summer of 2023, Benjamin Pavard often struggled in Serie A.

Though he occasionally showed flashes of brilliance, the 29-year-old lacked continuity and conviction.

As a result, Inter put him on the market.

Why Inter Milan Allowed Benjamin Pavard to Join Marseille on Loan

Marseille have paid a €2.5 million loan fee and can sign Pavard permanently for €15 million next summer.

However, that figure is a far cry from the €30 million Inter paid Bayern Munich two years ago.

Yet, Pavard’s underwhelming form made it difficult for the Nerazzurri to justify keeping him in the squad.

Therefore, his struggles in Serie A paved the way for his move to Marseille.

Meanwhile, Inter have turned to Manuel Akanji to fill the void, signing the Swiss star on loan from Manchester City.
