Ex-Spurs scout claims Tottenham are preparing themselves to receive offers for Richarlison from Brazilian and Saudi Arabian clubs.
Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison has endured a stop-start campaign under Thomas Frank so far. The Brazilian international was linked with an exit from N17 for majority of the summer transfer window. Several Brazilian and Turkish clubs showed interest, but none of them came with a concrete proposal and the forward ended up staying at the club. Due to Dominic Solanke’s persistent ankle issues, Thomas Frank had no other option but to begin his debut campaign in north London with Richarlison as the main man up top.
Perhaps to majority of the fanbase’s surprise, Richarlison has been decent. As the club’s top scorer in all competitions this season, it is fair to say Richarlison has partially repaid Thomas Frank’s faith by spearheading the Tottenham attack. He has bagged seven goals in 23 appearances in all competitions thus far.
Richarlison has been among the goals recently, netting four in last six appearances for the team. Despite his impressive starts to goals ratio, Tottenham fans do not rate him highly.
Yet, that hasn’t stopped the forward from attracting interest from clubs in Brazil and Saudi Arabia ahead of the winter transfer window. This is as per the information revealed by former Spurs scout Mick Brown, who says Tottenham are bracing for offers for the player during the mid-season trading period. However, the north Londoners have no plans to offload the Brazilian next month, having seen the centre-forward enjoy an upturn in form of late.
“It’s a tricky situation for Tottenham with Richarlison,” Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider.
“There has been a lot of talk that he could leave in January and whether they might be prepared to let him go, and in normal circumstances that might be the case. I think they are expecting clubs to come in for him, there’s been talk about Brazil, America, Saudi Arabia.
“He’s been too inconsistent for them over his time there, you never know one game he might score and look really good, but then the next he’ll go missing. That’s not ideal by any means, but given the situation Tottenham are in with their strikers, he’s been their best bet so far this season.”
Richarlison has managed to add some consistency to his game this season. In a team that has been lacking guile and cutting edge in the final third, the South American has emerged as a surprise source of goals. Keeping that in mind, Brown claims it is difficult to see the north London outfit let him leave midway through the campaign.
“So in January, I’m not sure they’re in a position where they would be able to let him go, because at the moment he’s scoring goals and leading the line,” he added.
“If he can continue in this vein of form, I think they’ll want to keep him at least until the end of the season when they can then assess what their options are.”
For the first time in a very long time, Richarlison has managed to keep himself fit. This has in turn allowed him to achieve some sort of consistency in front of goal. The gaffer has also been impressed with his energy, work rate and physicality along with the goals.
The South American is proving to be the right fit in Frank’s system for now. While Richarlison cannot be deemed a long-term solution to Tottenham’s goalscoring conundrum, he is going nowhere in January unless the club invests in a new No.9 or receives an eye-watering offer for the Brazilian.
