Negotiations between Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace for Eberechi Eze hit a roadblock

Tottenham Hotspur amply showcased their attacking credentials as they took on Burnley in their opening Premier League match of the 2025-26 season and emerging victorious by a 3-0 scoreline.

Yesterday’s game showed that Thomas Frank has a very competent attacking line at his disposal, with the new signing Mohammed Kudus putting in two assists and the veteran forward Richarlison scoring two incredible goals.

However, Spurs are still keen to further enhance their attack before this summer transfer window ends, and one of the players they are particularly keen to bring to their team is the Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze. In recent days, Tottenham have been working a lot on this operation, and have already beaten Arsenal to take the lead in the race for the Englishman’s signing.

However, as per a report from InsideFutbol, talks between the two sides did not go too well last night and these negotiations have now become somewhat difficult.

Spurs have already reached an agreement with the player himself, and Eze has also told Crystal Palace that he wants to join the North London side. However, the difficulty in negotiations with Palace could turn out to be a problem in an operation that was previously looking quite simple.

Eze remains a key target for Tottenham

To make matters worse, Eze’s £68 million release clause is now also expired, and Tottenham will have to arrive at an agreement with Palace to get their preferred target.

Tottenham need to make another offensive signing to mitigate the impact of Son Heung-Min’s departure. Eze is one of the most exciting candidates for Spurs, and there is no doubt that his arrival would provide Thomas Frank with another very competent forward.

A recent report from Fabrizio Romano claimed that talks are still advancing between the two sides, and thus, there is no need for excessive pessimism at this point in time. However, if Spurs are still unable to land Eze, they will have to turn their efforts towards other targets like Savinho to provide Frank with another high-profile attacker for the next season.
