Veteran striker Robert Lewandowski has endured an injury disrupted start to the 2025/26 La Liga season at Barcelona.
Lewandowski missed the opening win away at Mallorca with a muscle issue and he came off the bench late on in Hansi Flick’s 3-2 victory at Levante on August 23.
That was followed by another cameo in the 1-1 draw at Rayo Vallecano with Flick concerned over risking him from the start in Vallecas.
A return to Poland duty was agreed with Barcelona and he captained the side to a 1-1 draw in the Netherlands before being withdrawn on 64 minutes.
The 37-year-old is set to lead Poland again on September 7 at home to Finland, and the experienced striker insists he is fit enough to play 90 minutes for club and country as needed.
“Yes, I’m definitely ready [to play full game]. We don’t have another match in two days, so it’s different. I think I’ll be ready to play at home against Finland,” as per Mundo Deportivo.
Lewandowski was also asked about his controversial comeback after missing June’s games, following a row with former boss Michal Probierz, which resulted in his sacking.
New boss Jan Urban immediately brought Lewandowski back in and reinstated him as captain.
“The issue of the captaincy was greatly exaggerated. It’s a source of pride to be captain of this team, but it was never a problem, and it will never be a problem in this team.
“We talked about it in the team and it was never a problem. For me, the important thing is to focus on how the team plays, what we do well, and what we need to improve on.
“Being captain is a great honour, but it shouldn’t be exaggerated.”
The Netherlands, Poland and Finland are all currently tied on seven points in Group G as Lewandowski aims to qualify for his final World Cup next summer.
