Robert Lewandowski will be at Barcelona next season – ‘I have at least two more years at the top leve’

Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski has understandably drawn the focus of the media, as the Catalan giants look to ease their financial woes this summer, while strengthening. At the age of 35, and as one of the highest earners in the squad, it is no surprise he is suggested as a potential exit, but the Polish forward has no intention of leaving.

It has been suggested that Lewandowski could be a player that Barcelona are willing to part with, following a trophyless campaign for the club, and one of Lewandowski’s worst seasons in years, albeit still as Barcelona’s top scorer.

Lewandowski told MD that he still feels at the top of his game though.

“At this moment I feel very good, I don’t feel any different from three or four years ago, the same in training. For me it is very important to prepare very well physically and what players we have, tactically it is also important, but we are very strong as a team. At least two more years I can play at the highest level. If one day I see that I am not good, I will be the first to say it. 15 years ago I started working so that I can now play for two or three more years, taking care of myself, eating well…”

And on his future, he was no less adamant in his attitude.

“Yes, of course, for me it is very clear. I want to win many things with Barcelona and I am sure that next season we can play stronger and also win titles. I always want the best, not only for myself, but also for my teammates and I am sure that this team can win titles next season because I see what we do every day and for me it is more important because it is a club that I carry in my heart. I want to give many things to the team and the club.”

He would go on to praise Lamine Yamal, explain that when Barcelona were not winning, they have to be calm and look not to lose games, and confirmed he would be supporting Borussia Dortmund against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

The constant hints that Barcelona would be open to letting him go make sense on a financial level, but they would simultaneously have to work out how to replace his goals. This season he has 25, and no other Barcelona player has even half of that total, Ferran Torres scoring 11 so far. With Vitor Roque seemingly a long way from replacing Lewandowski in the short term, it looks as if Barcelona will have to plough on with him.
