Roma director Florent Ghisolfi explains why Mats Hummels is benched again for the trip to Parma, plus what to expect from their deadline day signings who start today.

It kicks off at the Stadio Tardini at 17.00 GMT.

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s five Serie A games on the Liveblog.

The frustration is still evident after the contentious 1-1 Europa League play-off draw with FC Porto, where Paulo Dybala was forced off after a kick to the knee and is therefore out of action here, while the refereeing from Tobias Stieler infuriated everyone.

Hummels struggling at Roma after strong run of form

Along with Dybala, Roma are also missing Devyne Rensch, while Bryan Cristante is suspended, but Leandro Paredes returns to the starting XI, but Hummels is benched for the third competitive game in a row.

“It is a choice from the coach, his form has dropped a little since the game in Milan, he is working hard and we expect him to play Thursday. That’s my thought, anyway!” Ghisolfi told Sky Sport Italia.

There are starts for January deadline day signings Lucas Gourna-Douath and Anass Salah-Eddine, so what can we expect from the new arrivals?

“They are two young players with physicality and also technical quality. Salah-Eddine is quicker, Gourna-Douath is more of a midfield enforcer, I am intrigued to see them both in action today.”

Ranieri has rarely been seen so angry as after the FC Porto game on Thursday, so do Roma have any more messages to send to UEFA refereeing designator Roberto Rosetti?

“I don’t want to talk about this before a different game. Sorry, but we must be concentrated on the match against Parma, we don’t want to drop points in Serie A and need to stay focused,” insisted Ghisolfi.

Roma convinced Ranieri to come out of retirement to help rescue their campaign, but he is expected to take a directorial role from next season, so is there any more news on finding the next coach?

“We are working on it, but it is only February, so we have time to make this decision and want to take as long as is required. We’ll see.”
