Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that no club has shown interest in Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo amid future uncertainty. Ruben Amorim dropped Mainoo in the frustrating Europa League final loss against Tottenham Hotspur, playing him as a late substitute.
The 20-year-old enjoyed a steep rise under former manager Erik ten Hag and established himself as the first-team regular midfielder. However, Amorim’s arrival changed his stature within the squad amid a contract standoff with the club, creating an uncertain future.
The England international has also struggled with muscle injury throughout this season, as fitness remains a big concern for him. Irrespective of all the persisting issues, Mainoo is one of the most promising talents from the academy in recent years.
The 20-year-old midfielder made 37 appearances in all competitions for United last season, scoring two goals and providing an assist. The stall in contract negotiations is a big concern for Man United as Mainoo’s current contract expires in June 2027.
The Red Devils are already struggling with finances and cannot lose one of their biggest assets for a cheap valuation. In an ideal situation, they would prefer to keep their young academy star and maintain the culture of the club.
According to the recent report from the Guardian, Mainoo planned to reject any United contract and move abroad. The report also suggested that the Red Devils have placed a £70m valuation on their 20-year-old star as they prefer a sale.
United need to raise their transfer budget by selling any surplus and unnecessary players to recruit the ones Amorim desires. According to Romano (via GiveMeSport), no club has shown interest in United star Mainoo despite his availability in the market. He said:
“At the moment, no concrete talks taking place. The situation has gone quiet. Let’s see if bids come in this summer.”
Given the open nature of the situation, potential suitors may be waiting for Mainoo to run his contract down. Despite his impressive talents, the 20-year-old is still a work in progress, and his current contract stance puts United at a disadvantage. Meanwhile, the majority of United fans are hoping that Mainoo will stay and sign a new contract with the club.
