Roy Keane is seen by many as the Premier League’s greatest captains.
One of Manchester United’s best ever midfielders, Keane was part of a successful period at the club.
After joining United from Nottingham Forest in 1993, Keane went on to captain United during the early stages of their Premier League dominance.
During his time at the club, Keane won seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a UEFA Champions League.
Keane famously missed the Champions League final in 1999 due to suspension after receiving a yellow card in the second leg of the semi-final against Juventus.
He put in one of the most famous performances in football history, guiding United to the final despite knowing he would not be playing in it.
Keane had a falling out with manager Sir Alex Ferguson, which led to his exit in January 2005, and their relationship has been strained ever since.
Since retirement, he had a go at management but is now a renowned pundit on Sky Sports and ITV.
He has had his say on the appointment of Michael Carrick as interim manager.
Carrick, who took on Keane’s 16 shirt number at United, has gotten off a perfect start in the role as interim manager, with wins against Manchester City and Arsenal.
However, Roy Keane was not impressed with the hiring.
“I just think they need a bigger, more experienced manager.
“The timing coming into the job was fantastic for him, and he’s said it there; he’s enjoying it. Are we all going to sit here and think Michael Carrick will get Manchester United winning league titles?
“If you think, on the back of two wins, that he warrants the job, then that’s your opinion, and I’m entitled to mine. I don’t believe he’s the man to get Manchester United back winning league titles.”
This has not gone down well with some members of the media.
Journalist Nathan Salt has stated in his latest article, that Roy Keane should be taken off Man United games.
Salt has accused Keane of “having an agenda” against Michael Carrick.
In his piece, he referred to Keane defending Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after Jamie Carragher called his CV limited whilst now criticising Carrick despite these two wins..
Salt has accused Keane to not liking Carrick because he took his number 16 short or for his wife’s social media confrontation with the former United captain.
He has also referred to public criticism from Keane of Carrick’s performances and post-match interviews whilst a United players and stated that he felt there is a clear personal basis on both sides of the coin from Gary Neville, Keane, Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand.
Salt has accused Keane’s punditry as “tiresome, performative nonsense that isn’t informative, entertaining or valuable, no matter how many millions of social media views it generates.”
For Keane, there is no danger of losing his role as pundit on Man United games, with his punditry largely popular amongst football fans across the country.
