Ruben Amorim became the latest manager to get the sack at Manchester United at the start of January 2026, adding to a long list of failed appointments.
The Portuguese manager was appointed in November 2024 to take over from Erik ten Hag, and lasted just over a year in the role.
However, his stubbornness to stick to his system, leading to poor and inconsistent results, saw him get the boot from the Manchester United hierarchy.
Now, Michael Carrick has stepped into the role of caretaker manager, switching back to a 4-2-3-1, instilling a new passion in the side, and as such is unbeaten in six games.
As expected though for Ruben Amorim, the former Sporting CP boss has already begun to be linked with a return to management.
Whilst a return to Portugal appeared to be most likely, new reports have linked him with heading to Brazil.
VDG-cast, as relayed by SuperVasco, has reported that the Brazilian side Vasco da Gama are keen to appoint Amorim as their new head coach.
Whilst he isn’t their main choice, with Artur Jorge of Al-Rayyan being their main target, Amroim has joined the list as a close running Plan B.
It’s understood the Brazilian side are looking to offer a high salary to lure the Portuguese manager to South America, needing a replacement for Fernando Diniz who left last week.
Vasco da Gama are currently sat in 17th place with only one point in three games, leading to Diniz’s sacking.
At this time, it’s unknown how Amorim feels about the Vasco da Gama job, with other links in play to see him join former club Benfica.
It’s understood that Jose Mourinho could leave the club this summer, with the side wanting Ruben Amorim to rejoin his boyhood club as his replacement.
