Ruben Amorim’s warning for Bruno Fernandes could be the last straw

For years, Bruno Fernandes has been the true bright spot for Manchester United, and before the club brought in Bryan Mbuemo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko this past summer transfer window, he really was the shining light carrying an anemic attack.

Fernandes was playmaking for the likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, Antony, and Joshua Zirkzee through years of attacking incompetence, ranking as the most productive playmaker in the Premier League despite a lack of attacking talent in front of him.

Now that Man United have the talent, though, Fernandes is being played further back as a No. 8, and while he’s doing his best in this position for manager Ruben Amorim and the results are turning around, there have been more and more transfer rumors of an exit to Saudi Arabia due to Bruno not playing in his best position as a 10.

Amorim may have just fanned the flames of a future transfer, too, as he basically told Fernandes that he’s going to be riding the bench more often going forward, almost hinting at Fernandes not being good enough to play every game if Man United get to European competition.

The Portuguese manager said at a press conference before the game against Tottenham Hotspur, “Just for Bruno to put in his head, maybe next year he’s going to be in rotation in the team. In the future is something that Bruno needs to understand. If you want to win every game, with Europe, is going to have to rotate”.

Everyone thought that because Fernandes and Amorim have a shared past at Sporting CP that Amorim would help favor the Portuguese international, but it’s been the opposite case.

If Fernadnes wants to play every week as a 10 and enjoy his football, Amorim has made the message clear that it’s going to be outside of Old Trafford then. Perhaps this could be the last straw for Fernandes as he ponders his future later this season.
