A Denver Broncos legend died

“We are saddened to learn of the passing of BroncosROF wide receiver Lionel Taylor,” the Broncos posted on X. “An original Bronco and one of the most dominant players of his era, Taylor had a tremendous impact on the franchise during his seven seasons in Denver (1960-66). Our hearts go out to Taylor’s family and friends.”

The Chicago Bears signed Taylor as an undrafted free agent in 1959. He then joined the Broncos in the team’s inaugural season in the AFL in 1960.

Taylor recorded 567 receptions for 7,195 yards and 45 touchdowns during his time in the league.

Following his seven years with the Broncos, Taylor played two seasons with the Houston Oilers before going on to have a long coaching career, winning two Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a receivers coach. Taylor played college football at New Mexico Highlands before playing professional football. Fans online remembered Taylor. “Really sad to hear this,” wrote a fan. “As a UK fan I met him when he was the HC of the World League London Monarchs during team training at Crystal Palace. He showed me his Ring of Fame ring. Really lovely guy. RIP.”

“My Condolences To His Family and Friends and Teammates,” posted another.
