Tottenham need to up their ante as we reach the business-end of the transfer market. The Lilywhites are yet to address any issues on the pitch, and it looks like Daniel Levy is setting up another manager to fail at N17. With the new season about to kick off in a month’s time, it is important for the North London club to bring in new players quickly.
Thomas Frank is heavily reliant on his full-backs during buildup play. The Danish tactician likes his full-backs high and wide, and wants them to constantly dart up and down while the team fights hard to maintain possession. Currently, the Lilywhites only have one left-back in their ranks that can cover the starting spot for the ex-Brentford boss.
This clearly indicates that Daniel Levy must aim to bring in a new full-back in the summer and have enough depth at the back heading into next season. With Sergio Reguilon gone and Destiny Udogie linked with a move to AC Milan, the North London club must act quick and bring in reinforcements before pre-season ends.
Signing a new left-back has suddenly become a priority for Tottenham as the club looks to compete hard on all four fronts next season. Keeping that in mind, the Lilywhites have looked at Fulham star Antonee Robinson and want to bring the USA international to N17 in the summer. The Cottagers have no intentions of selling the 27-year-old and have also slammed a £45m price tag on him, as the West London club hopes to fend off any potential suitors.
Now, John Wenham also believes that the price tag will lure Spurs away from the Fulham defender. Speaking to Tottenham News, Robinson said,
“Do I see it happening? Sadly not. I don’t think Tottenham will spend big money on a 28-year-old left-back when they already have Udogie. Manchester City would do it, Liverpool would do it, but I don’t think Tottenham will, as that’s now how they operate.”
John Wenham believes that Tottenham will not spend big money on a left-back that is 28-years-old when Thomas Frank still has Destiny Udogie in his ranks. The Lilywhite Rose owner believes that Daniel Levy lacks ambition and suggests that Manchester City or Liverpool would have gone all in to sign the USA international. But as far as Spurs are concerned, Wenham believes that the North London club will not make a move for the full-back.
Signing Antonee Robinson might just prove to be a masterstroke if the Lilywhite can manage to lower the asking price. The defender is arguably ‘one of the best full-backs in Europe’ and his ability to attack and defend proves that he will be a massive upgrade on Udogie. The 28-year-old is also entering his prime years now, and Spurs could take advantage of that and offer him Champions League football for next season.
