Thomas Frank is facing a big challenge at Tottenham Hotspur after moving from Brentford last week.
The 51-year-old will have to make an immediate impact at White Hart Lane to quickly win the trust of the fans, who endured an emotional rollercoaster ride last season. The Dane is set to have huge influence in the transfer dealings this summer, as chairman Daniel Levy looks to reshape the squad. He will also be key in deciding the future of several players, including skipper Son Heung-min.
After 10 long years, Son Heung-min finally won a trophy with Spurs, lifting the Europa League trophy at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao last month. He came off the bench to help his side register a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final.
After an underwhelming individual campaign, many have questioned whether Son Heung-min should continue to be a part of the club or leave. As per recent reports, the forward has given some players and staff at Tottenham a hint that he is set to leave the club this summer. The 32-year-old’s contract was due to expire at the end of June, but the club exercised their option to extend his deal by another 12 months in January, meaning he is now contracted until the summer of 2026.
The Saudi Pro League clubs have shown an interest in signing Son in the summer. The North Londoners are willing to let the player leave this summer as they want to cash in on their versatile attacker.
Now, according to a report from talkSPORT, three Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Ahli, Al Qadsiah and Al-Nassr have shown interest in the South Korean international and the trio are prepared to splash €40 million for his services. Al-Ahli are in the hunt for a left-sided forward, and Saudi Pro League executives want to give them priority to sign a star following their AFC Champions League success last season.
Son, who will turn 33 in July, scored a paltry seven Premier League goals last season. It’s the first time he has failed to reach double figures in the Premier League since his first campaign with the Lilywhites back in 2015-16. It is well documented the South Korean’s powers are waning, and despite him attaining full fitness before the Europa League final, former boss Ange Postecoglou decided to bench him and start Richarlison on the left flank instead.
While the experienced forward is willing to work with new boss Thomas Frank, the time is ideal for Spurs officials to part ways with him. With the funds generated from his potential sale, they must invest on a younger and dynamic left-sided forward. With the aforementioned Saudi clubs willing to pay €40million, Levy must not hesitate to sell the Tottenham icon.
