Saudi club shows interest in Manchester United midfielder

Casemiro is in his fourth season with Manchester United. Despite being past his prime, he's still been a key member of the team's midfield under both Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim.

However, Casemiro's $18.2 million annual salary is the highest in the club. With the veteran midfielder being past his prime, United may be tempted to find him a new home before the end of the current transfer window.

According to CaughtOffside, Saudi Pro League team Al-Ittihad is interested in signing Casemiro to strengthen its midfield for the next few years.

"Al Ittihad see him as the ideal candidate to strengthen their midfield options and further raise the profile of the Saudi league," Ahad Shaukat wrote. "The Brazilian has been linked with a move to the Middle East in the past but United have decided to keep him at the club due to his leadership and experience. For Al Ittihad, who are eager to compete domestically and on the Asian stage, signing a player of his pedigree could make an immediate impact."

Despite his advancing age, Casemiro is still a key member of United's squad. He's started in both of the team's Premier League games this season. His presence is a calming factor for those around him, especially due to his defensive know-how. Nevertheless, Amorim would likely prefer an athletic box-to-box midfielder in his place.

Selling Casemiro could free up the funds to pursue a younger replacement. Carlos Baleba has previously been linked with interest from United, as has Adam Wharton. With millions saved in salaries, plus a likely healthy transfer fee, United could dip back into the transfer market before the window closes on Monday, Sept. 1.

United will undoubtedly have some targets in mind should Casemiro leave in the next week. However, with the new season already underway, any new addition will need time to get up to speed.

Nevertheless, United is still without a win this season, and it may welcome the chance to upgrade the midfield, even if it comes at the cost of losing Casemiro and his wealth of experience.
