Atalanta defender and Italy international Giorgio Scalvini suffered a new shoulder injury, which will reportedly keep him out of action for at least three months.

The news came as a further blow to a player who had recently returned after a lengthy time on the sidelines due to an ACL rupture sustained last June.

Scalvini ruled out for at least 3 months after new Atalanta injury

However, the 21-year-old picked up a shoulder subluxation only weeks after completing his recovery in November. While he was initially able to come back and start various Serie A games for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, he suffered a similar but worse injury during their recent 2-2 draw at Barcelona in the Champions League.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Scalvini sustained another shoulder injury, which will require surgery and keep him sidelined for at least three months.

Although further details about his exact recovery time are expected to emerge in the coming days, the centre-back is unlikely to be able to return before May, meaning his season with Atalanta may be almost over.
