Tony Ralston is a man who receives his fair share of criticism. At club level, but mostly at International level. He might not be the best right back that Celtic has ever produced but he always gives one hundred percent, wears his heart on his sleeve and has been trusted to do a job by managers like Ange Postecoglou, Brendan Rodgers and Steve Clarke.
He’s been at the club a number of years now as a youth and professional and while he’s not exactly seen as a ‘superstar’ he’s certainly contributed to our success the past few years. Whether that’s been under Brendan Rodgers (twice) or Ange Postecoglou, Tony has done a job whenever he’s been called upon.
Due to a number of long term injuries at the right back position in the Scotland squad, Steve Clarke has put his faith in Raldo as he continually picks the Celtic man for crucial internationals. In all honesty Tony has looked a little out of his depth especially against the bigger nations, but he’s not been the worst of a poor bunch in the Scottish defence, far from it.
He actually looked decent in last night’s 2-1 defeat against Croatia, so he’s obviously quickly adapting to playing at that level.
At club level, Tony is ultimately back up to Alistair Johnston, but the experience he’s receiving at international level will benefit both him and the club in the long term.
