Scott McTominay urges Napoli to sign Manchester United midfielder

Scott McTominay has become something of a cult hero in Naples since his move to Italy last summer.

The Scottish midfielder, once seen as a limited defensive option at Manchester United, has completely reinvented himself under Antonio Conte at Napoli.

Now a dynamic, goalscoring presence in midfield, McTominay has lit up Serie A with his tireless energy, decisive finishing, and infectious personality both on and off the pitch.

He has quickly become a fan favourite in Naples, helping Napoli to the Serie A title, scoring 12 goals in his debut campaign, and earning the Club Player of the Year award.

His performances even saw him finish 18th in the Ballon d’Or rankings, capping off a remarkable personal turnaround.

However, McTominay now wants to see another Manchester United player follow in his footsteps and enjoy the same revival in Italy.

According to reports from The Sun, the midfielder has urged Napoli to make a move for his former teammate, Kobbie Mainoo.

The 20-year-old Englishman has endured a frustrating season under Ruben Amorim, featuring for just 138 minutes in the Premier League so far.

With United out of the Carabao Cup and not involved in European competition, Mainoo’s chances of regular first-team football this season appear slim.

His limited playing time has also cast doubt over his hopes of making Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

McTominay, aware of Mainoo’s talent and potential, is believed to have personally recommended him to Napoli boss Antonio Conte.

Mainoo, who has been with Manchester United since his early childhood, is widely regarded as one of the club’s brightest academy graduates in recent years.

Napoli are reportedly considering their options as they deal with a depleted midfield following Kevin De Bruyne’s thigh surgery, which will keep the Belgian out for an extended period.

Ruben Amorim is said to understand Mainoo’s disappointment and has privately assured him that he remains part of United’s long-term plans.

However, the young midfielder’s ambitions to secure regular football ahead of the World Cup may tempt him to explore a move away in January.

Mainoo’s omission from Tuchel’s latest England squad has only added to his concerns about stagnating at Old Trafford.

While his future remains uncertain, McTominay’s endorsement could open the door for another young United talent to find success and resurgence in Italy, just as he has done in Naples.
