Scott Parker has officially been appointed as the new manager of West Ham United on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
Parker replaces Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed by the Hammers following a poor start to the season that sees West Ham a point off the play-offs in the Championship in eighth place.
The West Ham faithful seem happy that Nuno has gone, and the former midfielder Parker has been tasked with returning to the Premier League, as well as restoring some sort of pride at the London Stadium.
Following confirmation of his appointment, Parker spoke to the Hammers media for the first time, where he expressed his delight at returning to the club, as well as preparing for the challenge that awaits him.
He told the club website: “It is a very proud moment for me to step into this role and return to a Club that means so much to me and my family. A lot of very fond memories of my time here – four years of probably the best football I played in my career.
“More than anything, this is an opportunity that I am very excited about. I feel privileged and honoured to be the guy that wants to lead us back to the Premier League and be the Head Coach of this Football Club at this moment in time.
“I’ve been in this division three times and I’ve got out of this division three times. This is a tough division, there is absolutely no denying it. And I will use every ounce of my experience, every ounce of my knowledge, to have an understanding of what we’re going to need to bring consistency.
“And that’s going to be the key word for all of us really. The consistency of what we do and the commitment levels that we go to will give us the best opportunity to get out of this division and be the team that we can be.”
As he was appointed with less than 24 hours to go until the Cardiff City game, the 46-year-old will watch the Irons from the stands in the Welsh capital.
He won’t have long to wait until he is in the dugout though, with West Ham travelling north to face Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on 7 November.
There will then be a brief hiatus for the November international break, allowing the new boss to get familiar with his squad.
