Celtic winger Sebastian Tounekti appeared to mock the Rangers following the Hoops’ dramatic Scottish Cup triumph at Ibrox…
Martin O’Neill’s side booked their place in the semi-finals of the competition after overcoming their Glasgow rivals in a tense penalty shootout on Sunday afternoon.
The match ended goalless after both normal time and extra time, with neither side able to find a breakthrough across the 120 minutes.
Celtic then held their nerve from the penalty spot. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Auston Trusty, Reo Hatate and Tomas Cvancara all converted their spot-kicks, while Ibrox duo James Tavernier and Djeidi Gassama blazed their efforts over the bar.
The result sends Celtic into the final four of the tournament, where they will meet St Mirren at Hampden next month for a place in the Scottish Cup final.
Following the victory, Tounekti took to social media to celebrate and appeared to aim a cheeky dig at the defeated hosts.
The Tunisian posted a picture of Celtic players celebrating together at Ibrox on his Instagram story, seen by his 282,000 followers, and added a clip of Tina Turner’s Simply the Best – the song that is traditionally played before matches at Ibrox and now been adopted by Celtic supporters.
Taking to Instagram, Tounekti said: “Glasgow stays green and white
.” The winger was included in the starting XI at Ibrox but his afternoon ended just before the hour mark when he was substituted in the 57th minute, with Tomas Cvancara coming on in his place.
Meanwhile, Tounekti has spoken about the behind-the-scenes backing he has been given by Celtic as he observes the fasting period during Ramadan.
Speaking over the weekend, he said: “Ramadan is a great month for Muslims, but the fasting does require sacrifice. We cannot eat or drink anything until after midnight. At that time, I can eat or drink and, of course, when the fast is over I can have what I want.”
“The fasting is something I have been doing for a long time so I know what I should do to keep myself in good shape and what not to do.”
“It is something I am used to and, of course, the club has been amazing in supporting me through Ramadan. The dieticians work with me closely to tell me what to eat and what not to eat.”
