Tottenham have managed to address most of the issues on the pitch in the summer by bringing in quality players. The latest player to walk through the entry doors at N17 is Xavi Simons. The Dutchman arrives at the North London club from RB Leipzig on a long-term deal. And it is fair to say that he will play a crucial role in helping the Lilywhites build on the Europa League success this season under Thomas Frank.
The 22-year-old is also the sixth signing Spurs have made this summer. The Lilywhites first managed to seal the deal for Kota Takai, Mathys Tel, and Kevin Danso early in the transfer window. And once that was sorted out, Daniel Levy managed a major coup by signing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United.
The arrival of the Ghana international gave Spurs fans some belief that more quality players were going to arrive before the transfer window shut. And that is exactly what happened, as the Lilywhites confirmed the arrival of Joao Palhinha on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich. But it is important to note that Tottenham are still not done in the market, and there is a possibility that another player arrives before deadline day.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank is certainly working his magic both on and off the pitch. The Danish tactician has endured a brilliant start to the season with the Lilywhites, winning his first two games of the new Premier League season. And the convincing performances on the pitch have certainly helped him lure more players in during the summer.
Now, Thomas Frank has shared how he manages to ‘sell’ the project to potential signings during negotiations. Speaking in his pre-match presser (via Hayters TV) Frank said,
“When I speak to them, I’m pretty direct and honest in how I see the player. Of course I want to sell the Tottenham project, but I’m always direct in terms of how I see their role and what we hopefully can make them to become.”
The Spurs manager added,
“Also that it will be a fantastic journey, but also there can be ups and downs in that journey and there’s bits they need to work on. We go into that, then I sign off – I would like the player, but the player also needs to sign off to the project and the role.”
Thomas Frank suggests that he is honest with the players, with regard to how they would be utilised at Tottenham and what role they will have in the team. The Danish tactician also indicates that he tries to ‘sell’ the Tottenham project by admitting that there will be ups and downs in the journey. Frank suggests that he only goes through with the signing if the player buys into the project and is willing to play for the club.
Well, the Spurs manager has managed to do a pretty good job in convincing the player to join the North London club. It is clear that Thomas Frank is not messing around and he wants to make the Lilywhites ‘serial winners’ during his time at N17. That will only be possible if the players are buying into the ideas and giving their all while donning the Tottenham jersey.
