Manchester United seem to have found more stability with Senne Lammens between the posts, and we have taken a closer look at the impact he has made.
Lammens arrived at Manchester United on deadline day, and it did not take long for Ruben Amorim to give him his first start in October.
Altay Bayindir kept hold of the goalkeeper role through September, giving the club an extended look at what he had to offer.
During that stretch, the Red Devils had a chance to get a better sense of where he stood in their plans.
The matches against Manchester City, Chelsea and Brentford only reinforced what many already suspected: a change was needed. This followed games earlier in the season against Arsenal, Fulham and Burnley that had raised similar concerns.
Lammens marked his debut with a clean sheet, and while he has not repeated that since, there is no question he has brought some improvement to the backline.
Since joining, Lammens has only lost one of his nine appearances for Manchester United.
On the other hand, Bayindir played in six matches this season, with the club losing half of those games.
So what changes has Lammens brought to the side?
The most notable difference lies in his shot-stopping. Lammens has posted a higher save percentage compared to Bayindir, which has been noticeable throughout his appearances.
Lammens is also conceding fewer goals per 90 minutes, averaging 1.22 compared to Bayindir’s 1.83 this season.
Another standout area is his kicking game. The Belgian’s ability to launch play from the back was praised during his debut and continues to be a useful asset for United.
Data from FBRef highlights how Lammens’ kicking range allows the Portuguese manager to adjust the team’s approach, adding more directness when needed.
Amorim was full of praise for Lammens’ kicking, especially his ability to use both feet.
That skill helps him handle pressure and navigate tough situations more smoothly than most goalkeepers.
Lammens has been getting plenty of attention at United lately. MUTV pundit Wes Brown highlighted how steady he looks between the posts and pointed out how effective his decision-making has been.
“He’s saved some good shots already, but for me, the most important thing has been he’s so calm, so calm,” Brown said.
“He knows when to clear it, knows when to pass it, and it’s not something we’ve been talking about after the game.
“He is so simple. And that’s how people can be in that goal for many, many years to come and keep going on.”
Lammens is still settling in at Man United, but early on there are positive signs.
Looking solely at the current season, his performance represents a significant and necessary improvement compared to Bayindir.
