Cagliari completed the comeback from Riccardo Orsolini’s opener to beat Bologna and climb out of the bottom three.

The Sardinians needed a result to avoid sliding into the drop zone and were coming off back-to-back draws with Empoli and Lecce. Zito Luvumbo was on international duty, with Gianluca Lapadula, Gaetano Oristanio, Eldor Shomurodov, Marco Mancosu and Marko Rog injured. Bologna’s stunning form lost intensity lately and star striker Joshua Zirkzee was suspended, with Alexis Saelemaekers, Dan Ndoye, Adama Soumaoro, Jesper Karlsson and Oussama El Azzouzi out of action.

Simone Scuffet was tested early on by the deflected Urbanski strike and Nicolas Viola’s lob from midfield landed on the roof of the net.

Riccardo Orsolini broke the deadlock with a solo strike, as he gathered the ball over the top down the right, sent Tommaso Augello to ground and just about kept it in play at the by-line to score from the tightest of angles.

However, Cagliari equalised when Andrea Petagna ran onto a long Alberto Dossena ball over the top and shrugged off Riccardo Calafiori to draw out Lukasz Skorupski and slide the finish into an empty net.

The Sardinians turned the game around from a set play, as the corner was not cleared effectively, Wieteska had a great first touch to control and turn, his low cross accidentally deflected in by Calafiori.

Orsolini probably was not offside when his angled drive flashed across the face of goal, while Scuffet kept out the Remo Freuler effort and Giovanni Fabbian’s glancing header went wide.
