Tottenham star Cristian Romero needs to sort out his future quickly before next season kicks off

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has certainly made waves ever since he made the switch to the Premier League in 2021. The Argentina international has become a mainstay at the club in recent years as well. His leadership and impact in the dressing room is clear to see. And the 27-year-old tends to lead from the front when the Lilywhites are in trouble.

Romero is known to wear his heart on his sleeve. The ex-Atalanta star played a crucial part in helping Spurs win the Europa League in May, earning a Man of the Match award for his performance. The centre-back did not let the opposition players go through him, and helped the North London club keep a rare clean sheet against all odds.

The Spurs No.17 has earned high praise from his teammates as well for the massive strides he has made in recent years. Alexis Mac Allister was quick to suggest earlier this year that Romero is the ‘best centre-back in the world.’ This just shows how highly regarded the Argentina international is in the footballing world.

Tottenham star Cristian Romero is linked with a move to Italy

It is an open secret now that Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham is uncertain. The 27-year-old was highly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in recent months, with Diego Simeone ‘calling’ him every day to lure him away from N17. But the La Liga giants could not meet the asking price that the Lilywhites set for the prolific defender. Hence, the deal broke off and Spurs managed to keep hold of him… for now.

However, there is no surprise that more clubs are taking interest in landing the Argentinian in the summer. To everyone’s surprise, a move back to Italy may be on the cards for Romero. FootItalia reports that AC Milan, Inter, and Juventus are interested in signing the defender in the coming weeks. It is also important to note that the Lilywhites will only consider a deal in the region of £52m for the ex-Atalanta star.

The trio of Serie A giants want to bolster their defence for the summer as they mount up a challenge for the league title. The aforementioned report also states that none of the three clubs have been in contact with Spurs regarding a transfer for Romero. But it is going to be an anxious wait for the fans as the transfer saga could evolve in the coming days.

Thomas Frank is ‘eager’ to keep hold of Cristian Romero in the summer as the Danish tactician looks to kickstart a new era at N17. With the Lilywhites aiming to build on the Europa League success next season, Daniel Levy will look to keep hold of the best players. And Romero is certainly one of the players that the club chairman wants to retain for next season.
