Earlier today, it was sadly confirmed that former Manchester United goalkeeper coach Silvino Louro passed away at the age of 67 years old.
The former goalkeeper, who spent his playing days in Portugal, with teams such as Benfica and Porto, enjoyed an illustrious career off the pitch as part of the coaching staff.
From 2000, Louro rejoined his former club, Porto, as their goalkeeping coach, eventually working under manager Jose Mourinho.
There on out, Silvino Louro followed Mourinho to Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Chelsea once more and Manchester United, before parting ways to end his career with Al-Hilal in 2021.
Having worked for so many different clubs, it’s no surprise that a whole host of tributes have begun pouring out, with Manchester United issuing a statement on the tragic news.
Taking to the official club website, Manchester United announced: “Manchester United is saddened to learn our former goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro has passed away at the age of 67.”
The statement continued: “The Portuguese joined the club in 2016 after the appointment of Jose Mourinho.
“Silvino had previously worked closely with our former manager at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Internazionale and Porto.
“In nearly three seasons at United, Louro oversaw a tight-knit goalkeeping group that included David De Gea, Sergio Romero, Sam Johnstone and Joel Pereira.
“The former Benfica stopper was notably part of a Reds squad that lifted three trophies in 2016/17 – the FA Community Shield, League Cup and UEFA Europa League.
“Our thoughts are with Silvino’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
Similar tributes have been issued by Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Chelsea, with no doubt that more are to follow.
